Central government challenges. The key macro-environmental issues impacting the property sector including planning system reform, the tax review, infrastructure funding and construction constraints, and what needs to be done to address them.
Health and Safety update. 18 months on from the new legislation, what have you done to ensure that you are meeting your obligations as a commercial building owner?
Commercial leases. The key issues that commonly arise in commercial leasing transactions including tenant due diligence of the premises that might affect business use, rent reviews, guarantees, and maintenance and reinstatement obligations.
- Jane Budge, Senior Advocacy Advisor, Property Council NZ. The Council advocates for the commercial property sector, lobbying the policy makers at both central and local government level. Jane is an experienced senior advocacy advisor with responsibility for Auckland.
- Stuart Bent, General Manager, Bayleys Property Services. Stuart oversees the Commercial Property and Facilities Management, Corporate and Occupier Services and Valuation divisions throughout New Zealand.
- Arthur Chung, Partner, Wynyard Wood. Arthur is an experienced property and construction lawyer who has represented a variety of commercial landlords and tenants across all property sectors.

Topical issues discussed included commercial industrial sale and purchases, tenancy agreements and parking, access and egress.

A variety of topical issues for commercial industrial property owners, tenants, body corporates and property managers were discussed at our recent Property Owners Forum. Members heard from panellists Neil Parker, Head of Facilities Management at Bayleys Property Services, Tim Jones, Partner at Glaister Ennor, and Patrick Cummuskey, Policy Advisor - Building Control at Auckland Council.
The forum concentrated on the new Health and Safety legislation, the Unit Titles Act 2010 five years on, and an update on earthquake-prone buildings legislation.

More than 80 members heard panellists Ian Little, Bayleys’ Senior Property Research Analyst; Andrew Thompson, Senior Structural Engineer, Harrison Grierson; and Paul McKay, General Manager Corporate Marketing, Aon Insurance, discuss the radical changes resulting from the building policy review that have significant compliance code implications for the property industry and building owners.
The Forum focused on the proposed changes, the current seismic rating system confusion, and insurance and risk implications.
